Campfire Chat Recap | February 26, 2022
Today we discussed our favorite shows to binge watch. FlixPatrol.com is a website full of information on the top movies and shows on streaming services around the globe. I narrowed it down to the top 10 movies and shows in the US in 2021 on Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu. It was interesting to see the difference in the US and world statistics. I don’t know if it’s a good thing or bad thing but the top movies and shows in the US are children’s programming. If you like statistics, then you will enjoy poking around on this site.
Call the Midwife is one of my favorite shows. They have dealt with stroke in several episodes and have done a beautiful job explaining what happens and how survivors can find meaning and ability again. Here are links to two of the episodes.
When we were talking about foreign programs with subtitles, we were reminded that some people with aphasia, vision problems, or cognitive issues might not be able to read subtitles so the new technology that dubs videos in English without that mismatch between mouth movement and sound can allow more people to enjoy movies and shows. For others, closed captioning can be a way to promote understanding of onscreen dialog. Netflix has so many new accessibility options! When you start a video, click on the speech bubble at the bottom of the screen to open the language menu. (I circled it in red in the image.)
